Tension-Free Hands And Arms Equal Higher Clubhead Speed

There is one BIG killer of clubhead speed. Tension! Tension kills speed, and lack of speed destroys distance. It’s so hard for golfers to accept it, but gripping the club lighter will give you more distance.

I want you to picture swinging a baseball bat. When you swing it, do you feel like you are gripping the bat tightly, or that your arms and hands are tight? I’ll bet not. There is no way you can swing the baseball bat powerfully with tight muscles.

Now, the next time you hit balls, I want you to do something for me. I know this sounds crazy, but I want you to grip the club really tight, flex your muscles hard and make a swing. I can tell you what happens. Your distance and ball contact will be way below normal. In fact, you may lose up to 50 yards or more on your drives.

I want you to quickly realize when tension starts in your hands with your grip, it will go up into your arms, then into your shoulders. You’ve just killed all possibility to hit it long! You have no chance with a “death grip” on the club.

This is the extreme in the sense of tension, but I really want you to get it. To understand that you need freedom in your swing, so that the club acts like a whip through the ball. You will also get great extension in your swing with relaxed hands and arms.

Here’s a great swing tip!

Just before you take your club away, give it a good waggle or two, and really feel the tension disappear from your hands. This will kickstart your swing with no tension, giving you the best chance at hitting your longest drives.
